The King visits local community groups at Cinque Ports in Deal

The King visited Walmer Castle, Deal Castle and Walmer RNLI Lifeboat Station
The King toured Walmer Castle, the historic coastal fortress that serves as the residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports – a role currently held by Admiral the Lord Zambellas. The Castle was once home to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother during her tenure as Lord Warden.
During the visit, His Majesty observed ongoing restoration works undertaken by English Heritage to preserve the Castle for future generations. His Majesty proceeded to The Queen Mother’s Garden, where he was introduced to senior representatives from the Confederation of the Cinque Ports, as well as delegates from the towns that comprise the group. Following a tour of the gardens, His Majesty planted a tree to mark the occasion.
His Majesty then visited the Captain’s Garden at Deal Castle. The historic walled garden has been revitalised through the efforts of local volunteers and community groups to create a wildlife-friendly space for residents and visitors.
During the visit, The King met with volunteers who played a key role in transforming the garden, along with representatives from community organisations who regularly use the space.
Concluding the day, His Majesty visited Walmer RNLI Lifeboat Station – his first official visit to an RNLI station since being announced as Patron of the charity in May 2024.
At the station, The King met operational volunteers from the seagoing and shore crews of RNLI stations across the Cinque Ports, as well as members of the Walmer RNLI shop team. Before departing, His Majesty observed a launch demonstration of the station’s D class lifeboat.
