The Duchess of Cornwall visits communities in Haringey
Published
The Duchess of Cornwall today carried out engagements in Haringey and saw how local communities in the London borough have been supporting each other during the pandemic.
Her Royal Highness first met staff, volunteers and patients receiving the Covid-19 vaccine at Tottenham Vaccination Centre. The vaccination team at the centre consists of volunteers and vaccinators from all health care backgrounds and medical students from across London.
The centre has also been working with the local community to combat vaccine hesitancy. Staff showed The Duchess the Covid-19 vaccine preparation process - during operating hours the site delivers at least one vaccine per minute.
The Duchess gently shook a phial of vaccine mixed with saline solution a number of times after Dr Russell Hearn invited her to join in the process. The team at the centre are due to give their 50,000th injection this weekend.
Her Royal Highness then travelled to Wightman Road Mosque. After being welcomed by Sister Bibi Khan, President of the London Islamic Society, The Duchess saw how the organisation has supported their community through the pandemic. Members of the mosque have helped those in need by distributing food hampers as well as providing counselling and advice to those struggling.
The Mosque was also the first to hold a pop-up vaccine centre in Haringey to encourage those reluctant to be vaccinated to come forward.
