The King and Queen welcome The Sultan of Oman to Windsor Castle
Published 20/10/2026
Today, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman, is paying a State Visit to the United Kingdom as the guest of The King and Queen. Their Majesties will host the State Visit at Windsor Castle.
Having been greeted by The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The King, The Sultan of Oman travelled to Datchet Road in Windsor.
Here, The King and Queen, joined by The Prince and Princess of Wales, welcomed The Sultan to the United Kingdom.
The Sovereign’s Escort gave a Royal Salute and the Omani National Anthem was played.
The Sultan was then invited to join a carriage procession through the town of Windsor, ending in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle.
A Guard of Honour, found by Nijmegen Company Grenadier Guards, with the Royal Standard of the Regiment and F Company Scots Guards, with the State Colour of the Regiment, with the Band of the Scots Guards, was mounted in the Quadrangle.
After a Royal Salute was given, The Sultan, accompanied by The King, inspected the Guard of Honour.
At the end of the Inspection, The Sultan and The King re-joined The Queen to view The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery March Past and the Sovereign’s Escort Rank Past and the Guard of Honour March Past.
Following this, the party moved inside Windsor Castle for a private lunch.
In the Green Drawing Room, The King and Queen invited The Sultan to view an exhibition of items from the Royal Collection relating to Oman.
These included an historic book presented to Queen Victoria in 1875, and two of The King’s watercolours of Oman, painted during his tour to the country in 1995.
This evening, Their Majesties hosted a State Banquet for The Sultan of Oman in St. George’s Hall.
Inspired by the Omani ritual of Kahwa, a collection of special teas were served. While Kahwa is traditionally a spiced coffee, the concept has been adapted to draw on the long-standing British love of tea while preserving the aromatic spices and flavours that make Kahwa so distinctive: fragrant cardamom, delicate rose, sweet dates, and gentle warming spices. Guests were invited to choose from an Iced Earl Grey & Date, an Iced Mint & Rose, or a Warm Cardamom-Spiced Blend sweetened with Windsor Honey. Together, they reflect the warmth and hospitality shared by both Omani and British traditions.
At the start of the Banquet, The King delivered a speech, at the end of which His Majesty proposed a Toast to The Sultan of Oman.
The Duchess of Edinburgh’s String Orchestra played in St. George’s Hall while the Banquet was in progress.
