A new photographic portrait of His Majesty The King has been unveiled at the Scottish Parliament by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.
The portrait, taken by photographer Millie Pilkington in 2024, shows His Majesty in the Sunken Garden at Balmoral Castle, dressed in King Charles III tartan and holding a handcrafted stick gifted by the Mey Highland Games.
The image was commissioned to mark the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Presiding Officer, the Rt Hon Alison Johnstone MSP, who accompanied The Princess Royal. The portrait now hangs in the Parliament’s Main Hall, where it will be seen by thousands of visitors each year.
The portrait joins other significant artworks in the Main Hall, including the Three Honours sculpture by Scottish silversmith Graham Stewart, gifted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2004.
A portrait of The Late Queen, unveiled by The Princess Royal in 2011, also hangs nearby.
