The Queen celebrates British Flowers Week at the Garden Museum
Published
The Queen has taken a first-look at this year’s British Flowers Week exhibition at the Garden Museum, which champions British-grown flowers, sustainable floristry and the immense talent in floral design found across the country.
Uniting florists, flower growers and flower lovers, British Flowers Week was founded by New Covent Garden Market, the UK’s premier flower supplier.
Greeted by Museum Director, Christopher Woodward, The Queen was given a tour of the five floral installations on display for British Flowers Week. The exhibiting floral designers – Botanical Tales, Lucy Vail Floristry, Mahal Kita Flowers, SAGE and Yinari – have created sculptural flower installations using seasonal, sustainably-sourced, British-grown flowers, arranged with environmentally friendly materials and methods.
The installations have been designed specifically for the historic space and will interact with the Garden Museum’s Grade II* listed building, parts of which date back to 14th century. The theme for this year’s exhibition is New Beginnings, inspired by fresh starts, budding new growth, changing seasons and an optimistic
step forward for the floral industry.
While at the Museum, Her Majesty also Her Majesty met group of school children from La Retraite RC School, Lambeth, as they took part in a cooking lesson in the Learning Studio Kitchen. The Garden Museum’s food learning programme aims to inspire people to cook with and learn more about plants.
