The Prince of Wales visits Breast Cancer Now
Published
In his role as Patron, The Prince of Wales today visited the Breast Cancer Now Toby Robins Research Centre at the Institute of Cancer Research London, 21 years after he officially opened it as the UK’s first dedicated breast cancer research centre.
Charity Breast Cancer Now is the UK’s first comprehensive breast cancer charity, combining world-class research and life-changing care.
During the visit, The Prince heard from scientists in the lab about an innovative trial currently underway, which explores a potential treatment for lobular breast cancer, which accounts for up to 15% of all breast cancer cases.
His Royal Highness also met participants of Breast Cancer Now’s £1000 Challenge, which encourages people to raise £1000 for vital secondary breast cancer research at the centre. 11-year-old Oscar was inspired to raise funds for the charity after his mum was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in 2018, followed by a secondary breast cancer diagnosis in 2020. Another donation from 78-year-old Audrey, a Foundling £1000 Challenger, helped ensure the Research Centre could be built.
