The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visit Wandsworth Foodbank

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited Wandsworth Foodbank at St Mark’s Church today, which was started by congregation members in 2013 in response to the growing need they saw in their community. It is part of the Junction Community Trust, an independent charity founded by the Church. It provides emergency food, support and advice to people and families across Wandsworth who are experiencing severe financial hardship.

The Prince and The Duchess were shown around by Reverend Martyn Lavzell, Vicar of St Mark’s and Sarah Chapman co-founder of the Wandsworth Foodbank before meeting Dan Frith, Manager of the food bank, and Emma Revie, the Trussell Trust CEO.

Their Royal Highnesses met volunteers, staff members, church leaders and local business supporters who ensure the food bank can serve the local community and provide emergency support to people facing hardship. The Prince and The Duchess were also shown some of the food packages that are provided to people facing financial crisis twice a week, and spoke to members of the welcome team who meet and greet people who need support from the food bank.

Their Royal Highnesses ended the visit by signing a certificate in recognition of the work that the food bank has been doing for the local community throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.

Wandsworth Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust’s network of food banks. The Trussell Trust is an anti-poverty charity that supports 1,300 food bank centres across the UK.
