Earthshot 2025, Brazil

The Prince of Wales is in Brazil this week to carry out environmental engagements and attend The Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, ahead of COP30.
On the morning of the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony, The Prince spent time meeting the 2025 Finalists at the iconic Christ the Redeemer.
Before meeting the Finalists, His Royal Highness met His Eminence Cardinal Orani João Tempesta, O.Cist., Metropolitan Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro and Padre (Father) Omar Raposo, The Guardian of The Sanctuary, Christ The Redeemer. Father Omar took The Prince to visit the Chapel underneath Christ The Redeemer.
His Royal Highness then had the opportunity to meet and speak to all fifteen Earthshot Prize Finalists and hear about their experience of the Earthshot Prize Finalist Programme, as well as their ambitions and hopes ahead of the Awards Night.
All Earthshot Prize Finalists take part in a year-long Finalist Programme – a key part of the wrap-around support provided to each cohort of fifteen. They receive mentorship, international visibility, pro-bono legal support, strategic digital and communications advice, and training designed to help accelerate progress and maximise impact. That support includes access to the Prize’s ambitious global network of businesses, philanthropists, investors and environmental organisations committed to climate action.
The Prince later attended the Earthshot Prize Impact Assembly, which forms part of the three-day Earthshot Prize Summit taking place in the city. The event showcased impactful and transformative stories from the Earthshot network over the past year as well as highlighting some of the most significant investments which will help propel Finalists’ solutions forward.
The Summit was attended by CEOs, representatives from government, Earthshot Prize Finalists, Indigenous leaders and youth advocates.
The focal point of The Prince’s trip to Rio De Janeiro was the fifth annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony. During the event, the five Winners of the 2025 Prize were unveiled and awarded £1 million.
In a speech during the ceremony, His Royal Highness said:
Since I launched the Earthshot prize, so much has been achieved. Over the past five years, this community has dedicated their time, talent, vision and expertise to fixing our planet.
The ceremony aimed to provide a moment of celebration, highlighting the impact achieved by past Winners and Finalists as well as sparking the imaginations of young people around the world who could be future Earthshot Prize Winners.
The star-studded Awards Night was broadcast to an audience of 34 million people in Brazil and the UK, with broadcast partners BBC and Globo. Globo will be airing the Ceremony on Multishow and Globo play on 5th November, with a highlights show on TV Globo broadcasting on 7 November, before streaming on BBC iPlayer from 8 November.
