The King visits Clackmannanshire
Published
The King has visited The Gate Charity, a community resource that offers support, practical help, and provides a safe environment to those affected by homelessness and food insecurity.

Established in 2011, the initial aim of The Gate was to help people who were affected by homelessness and food insecurity. Quickly, the extent of greater need was apparent and now the organisation is seen as the ‘go to’ charity in Clackmannanshire.

As The Gate has grown in line with the projects undertaken and the needs of the local community, it now has eleven members of staff and around 80-90 volunteers. Numerous clients have become volunteers, and many volunteers have moved on directly to find paid employment because of the experience they have gained.

During his time at the centre, The King met volunteers and staff, before meeting representatives of local charities and voluntary organisations who have been presented with a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service or a King’s Award for Voluntary Service, including Forth Valley Welcome, Homestart Clackmannanshire and Breathe Easy.

Each of the charities host events for those in the local community, offering support and a safe space for those who need it the most.

I have vivid and happy memories of my visit to Brazil with Prince Philip in 1968, especially the warmth and hospitality of the Brazilian people.
