The King visits Battersea Power Station

Greeted by Christmas music, sung by members of the Battersea Power Station Community Choir, The King visited the Curated Makers Christmas Market, which was founded by King’s Trust Alumna, Megan Jones.

Supported by The King's Trust in 2018 through the Enterprise Programme, Megan has gone on to achieve success through developing the ‘Curated Makers’ brand, winning awards and receiving Innovate UK backing, partnering with Apple, the RHS, Network Rail and John Lewis, and launching stores within Battersea Power Station and Meadowhall in Sheffield.

In Turbine Hall A, The King toured the market stalls, including King’s Trust and community stalls selling festive gifts, as well as skincare products, homeware, fabrics, clothing and accessories.

His Majesty also met Rita Kelly, who worked in the Power Station in the 1950s, and officially opened the restored Power Station to the public in 2022.

Following this, The King visited Apple’s UK headquarters, based at the Power Station, where he met British talent and young people from The King’s Trust who are being supported by the company.

Apple has long supported education across the UK Its programmes for learners of all ages and backgrounds aim to expand opportunities, teach key skills needed to succeed in the workforce, and bolster the local tech industry pipeline.

The King’s Trust and Apple partnered to co-create and integrate technology workshop sessions into these programmes to empower young people to build confidence and develop creative digital skills.

Guided by the Chief Executive of Apple, Tim Cook, His Majesty said hello to Apple employees, community partners and British talent, including Artist Yinka Ilori, England rugby players Jess Breach and Lou Meadows, and disability activist, Lucy Edwards.

To end the visit, The King will met a number of schoolchildren from St George’s CofE Primary School, whose Christmas drawings were projected on the Power Station’s iconic chimneys, as British singer songwriter Raye gave a special festive performance.
