The Queen has spoken of family traditions and the importance of hope in moments of darkness during her annual Christmas Broadcast to the Commonwealth
Her Majesty looked back on key events in 2015, including VJ Day commemorations and the inaugural Queen’s Young Leaders awards:
She also spoke of traditions begun by her ancestors, which are now followed around the world, and talked of the pleasure in sharing them with her own family:
‘One of the joys of living a long life is watching one’s children, then grandchildren, then great grandchildren, help decorate the Christmas tree. And this year my family has a new member to join in the fun!’
On a more sombre note, Her Majesty looked to the Bible for Christ’s teachings on forgiveness, ending with a positive message to viewers around the world:
‘There are millions of people lighting candles of hope in our world today. Christmas is a good time to be thankful for them, and for all that brings light to our lives’
