The Earl of Wessex visits Malaysia and Australia with The Duke of Edinburgh International Award

Tour Overview

The Earl of Wessex has travelled to Malaysia and Australia where, as Chairman of Trustees of the DofE International Award, he will see first-hand the positive impact of the Award in both countries.

Other engagements on the tour will focus on business, sporting partnerships, young people and the environment.

Malaysia

In Malaysia, The Earl - who is Vice Patron of the Commonwealth Games, met Malaysian athletes including those taking part in Birmingham 2022

His Royal Highness watched demonstrations of sepak takraw, or kick volleyball, and wushu, a form of martial art, at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur. 

The Queen, Patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation, and The Duke of Edinburgh attended the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur during a 1998 State Visit to Malaysia.

On The Earl's final day in Malaysia, he attended the #DofE International Award Asia Pacific Regional Conference.

The Earl of Wessex then handed out over 150 DofE Gold Awards to recipients from across Malaysia.

The DofE was set up in 1956 by The Duke of Edinburgh and offers young people a challenging and rewarding programme of personal development.

The Earl is UK Trustee of the DofE and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Award. 

Australia

From Malaysia, The Earl of Wessex, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, travelled to Australia with the #DofE​ International Award.

The International Award is celebrating its 60th anniversary in Australia this year. Since its inception in 1959, over 775,000 young Australians have completed the Award!

The 60th Anniversary celebrations continued on Saturday, with The Earl travelling to North Wollongong Surf Life Saving Club.
