The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, opens Cardiff University's Brain Research Imaging Centre.

The Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) houses a combination of neuroimaging equipment unique within Europe, playing a pivotal role in the global endeavour to better understand the causes of neurological and psychiatric conditions such as dementia, schizophrenia and multiple sclerosis.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were given a tour of the Centre, viewing a specially adapted MRI scanner, of which there is only one other in the world.  The scanner will enable researchers to study tissue microstructure in incredibly fine detail.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness met pupils from a local school take part in a series of activities to illustrate the power of the brain.

A specially commissioned sculpture created by Dr Gemma Williams from the University’s School of Psychology was also unveiled by Her Majesty.
