Procession of Her Majesty’s Coffin from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to St Giles’ Cathedral

Her Majesty The Queen’s coffin has been taken in Procession from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to St. Giles’ Cathedral, where it will Rest for 24 hours.

The Coffin was draped with the Royal Standard in Scotland and dressed with a Wreath of Flowers. The Wreath was made up of:

• White Spray Roses
• White Fressias
• White Button Chrysanthemums
• Dried White Heather (from Balmoral)
• Spray Eryngium (thistle)
• Foliage
• Rosemary
• Hebe
• Pittosporum

The Hearse was flanked by the Bearer Party from the Royal Regiment of Scotland, and an Escort Party from the The King’s Body Guard for Scotland (Royal Company of Archers).

The King, The Princess Royal, The Duke of York, The Earl of Wessex and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence followed the coffin on foot. The Queen Consort and The Countess of Wessex travelled by car.

As the coffin moved in Procession to St Giles’ Cathedral, minute guns were fired from Edinburgh Castle.

At St Giles’ Cathedral there was then a Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Her Majesty The Queen.

The congregation included friends and family of The Queen; representatives from all the Armed Forces and Her Majesty’s Patronages in Scotland; Civic Society of Scotland; Leaders of Scottish Politics; Chairs of Scottish Higher Education Institutions; Arts and Sports Public Bodies; representatives from the Scottish Justice System; representatives from a broad selection of Faith groups and Youth Organisations.
