The Duchess of Edinburgh visits Oxfordshire
Published
The Duchess of Edinburgh has visited organisations supporting local communities in Oxfordshire.
At RAW's Oxfordshire manufacturing base, The Duchess learned how the team provides training and employment to people who have faced challenges including addiction and homelessness.
Her Royal Highness toured the manufacturing facilities and spoke to young people about the skills they are learning at RAW.
RAW channel all of the profits from their business into their youth charity RAW Potential, a provision helping young people develop their skills in an alternative educational environment.
Next, The Duchess visited Windale Community Hub in The Leys. The Hub, based at Windale Primary School site and run by The Oxford Hub, provides free space and support for local people to come together as a community and share skills.
Her Royal Highness met local people using the space to support one another, including through a clothes bank and food larder.
The Duchess also spent time with creative and environmental groups, including the Oxfordshire African Caribbean Multicultural Association arts group.
Finally, Her Royal Highness visited Ronald McDonald House Oxford to celebrate their fifth anniversary.
The Oxford House is one of 14 operated by Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, an independent organisation providing free 'home away from home' accommodation and support for families of children in hospital.
The Duchess spoke to families who shared how much they value the houses which provide a place to sleep, cook, and retain some sense of normal life - a lifeline for families at a very stressful time, especially when they are far from home.
