St. James's Palace

The Duke of Edinburgh this morning planted a Sycamore Gap tree sapling at Eldon Street, Greenock, gifted to Moving on Inverclyde, and was received by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire (Colonel Peter McCarthy).

His Royal Highness this afternoon visited Inverclyde Music Festival at Beacon Arts Centre, Custom House Quay, Greenock.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Trustee, afterwards met young people at the Devol Centre, Auchinleck Lane, Port Glasgow, who are participating in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

The Duchess of Edinburgh, Patron, UK Armed Forces Winter Sports Association, today attended the Inter-Services Snow Sports Championships in Méribel, France.

Her Royal Highness this afternoon met members of Ski Angels at Méribel les Allues.

Her Royal Highness, accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, this afternoon attended a Reception at Palazzo Reale, Piazza Del Duomo 12, Milan, and was received by The President of the Italian Republic and Mrs. Laura Mattarella (daughter of The President).

The Princess Royal, Member, International Olympic Committee, and President, British Olympic Association, accompanied by Admiral Laurence, this evening attended the Opening Ceremony of the XXV Winter Olympic Games at San Siro Stadium, Milan.

Windsor Castle

The King and Queen this morning visited the Sun Inn, High Street, Dedham, were received by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Essex (Mrs. Jennifer Tolhurst), the Owners (Mr. and Mrs. Piers Baker) and the Mayor of Colchester (Councillor Michael Lilley) and met representatives of local community groups.

Their Majesties afterwards walked along the High Street and met members of the local community and children from Dedham Primary School.

The King and Queen subsequently visited Essex Rose Tea Room in the High Street and were received by Mr. Walter Scott and Mr. Christopher Newenham (Joint Managing Directors of Wilkin and Sons Limited).

His Majesty and Her Majesty, Patron, British Sporting Art Trust, afterwards visited Munnings Art Museum, Castle House, Castle Hill, Dedham, and were received by the Director (Ms. Jennifer Hand) and the Trustees.

The King and Queen toured the Museum, meeting members of staff and supporters, before attending a Reception and officially opening the Garden Room.

The Prince and Princess of Wales this afternoon called upon the Archbishop of Canterbury at Lambeth Palace, London SE1.

The Prince of Wales afterwards visited the Secret Intelligence Service in London.
