The Countess of Wessex attends The Munich Security Conference
Published
For nearly a year, The Countess of Wessex has been supporting the UK's work on Women, Peace and Security.
Her Royal Highness joined a panel discussion at a joint event held by The Munich Security Conference to hear from women with first-hand experience countering violent extremism.
The Countess spoke about her own experiences meeting brave and inspirational women peace keepers.
I have spoken with women peace builders active in the most dangerous parts of our world. They are being threatened for daring to engage in dialogue; for daring to care about the lives of children, the sick, the elderly, the vulnerable; for daring to offer young men productive, dignified alternatives to becoming fighters and soldiers; and, for daring to call on leaders to uphold their commitments to inclusive, sustainable peace and security.
The Countess also visited the IMMA centre in Munich to learn more about how they support the refugee community and young women and girls who have suffered from domestic violence, sexual abuse and trauma.
