Royal visit to Australia

THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS ISSUED BY THE PRESS SECRETARY TO THE QUEEN
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Australia from 12 to 16 March 2006, for the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. The Queen will officially open the Games at the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, 15 March 2006.
Background
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh last visited Australia in 2002, when they visited South Australia and Queensland, including the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting at Coolum, Queensland.
