The King, The Queen and members of the Royal Family are today attending a Garter Day service and ceremony at Windsor Castle.
The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain, established by King Edward III nearly 700 years ago. Edward III was so inspired by tales of King Arthur and the chivalry of the Knights of the Round Table that he set up his own group of honourable knights.

New appointments to "The Garter" were invested in the Garter Throne Room, where The Duchess of Gloucester and three new Companions to the Order of the Garter were invested, including the Air Chief Marshal the Lord Peach, The Right Honourable the Lord Kakkar and The Lord Lloyd-Webber.
The Duchess of Gloucester was made Royal Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.
